The Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida is a hot spot for a vacation. From it’s beautiful decor, to the multiple amenities, combined with excellent customer service, you won’t be disappointed with this getaway!
My daughter had a cheer competition in Orlando, Florida at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. We debated staying onsite at the Gaylord Palms Resort or booking a room at a less expensive hotel. We decided to splurge and stay at the Gaylord Palms. This was a decision we did not regret!
Gaylord Palm’s Atrium
Following checkin, you will enter the atrium. The atrium is a sight in itself. Under a 4 acre glass roof, the magnificent atrium is filled with beautiful landscaping, Palm Trees, large rock formations with streams and cascading waterfalls. The streams are stocked with stunning Koi Fish, turtles, and alligators! If you are lucky, you can watch the alligators feed. It is quite entertaining.
Gaylord Palms Resort Restaurants
Also included in and around the atrium are:
- several gift and clothing shops
- coffee shop with Starbucks (an important must-have for some coffee drinkers I know)
The Gaylord Palms Resort has 4 main restaurants and quicker service restaurants such as bar service, pool dining service, stores, and room service.
We ate off site for our evening meals. For our lunches, we at the Gaylord Palms at their pool dining service and their Wrecker’s Sport’s Bar. We were not overly impressed with either. They were high dollar for low quality food. The other restaurants appeared much, much, much more appealing, but we did not dine at any of them, so I cannot give a fair opinion. They were also very high dollar, so take that into consideration. Based on our experience with the pool food and Wreckers, we didn’t give them a try. I am a foodie. I was not too happy with the pool food.
Because of my daughter’s competition, we had time constraints on where we could eat. My husband and daughter are less concerned about food quality than my son and I. My husband and daughter had major pouting and eye glaring from my son and I as we ate the pool food. We were not happy campers. If you can not go to one of Gaylord Palm’s nicer restaurants, the burgers and pizza are probably your best option pool or Wrecker’s Sport’s Bar.
I suggest stocking your mini fridge with snacks and eat out… The Gaylord is centrally located to everything. It is just 10 minutes from Downtown Disney where we dined most nights.
What is there to do at the Gaylord Palms Resort?
The Gaylord Palms Resort has a fabulous work-out center. My husband and I were able to sneak in a workout early in the mornings while our kids were still crashing in bed. They also have a spa. We could have used a spa after hours and hours of loud cheer music… but we did not have that opportunity unfortunately.
We did get to check out the pools! If you have younger children, they have the coolest pool with an attached mini water park and a movie sized tv screen! They also have an entire adult section for 16 years and older with its own hot tubs, cabanas, and a beautiful large pool. Ahh yes! No screaming toddlers belonging to someone else during your down time… It was pretty awesome. My adult pool picture did not come out, but the pool area was fabulous.
What is included in the rooms?
The Gaylord’s spacious rooms were nicely decorated with wifi and a refrigerator. Snacks and drinks are high dollar at the Gaylord Palms Resort, so come prepared to use the little refrigerator. Our room was on the 6th floor with a balcony overlooking the stunning atrium, perfect for a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening.
Gaylord’s Staff were friendly and attentive. I really did enjoy my stay there. It is a great getaway minutes from Disney, Downtown Disney, and Universal Studios. I would definitely go back. Check it out. Hope you love it. And if you do, I told you so!
