I spent the day with Fayetteville NC Bloggers exploring Spring lake, NC. We had quite the adventure bonding together. The day included clay target shooting, eating barbecue, cooling off with snoballs, and canoeing down the Little River. Did you know Spring Lake had all of this?
So I pretty much have lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina my whole life. Spring Lake is just in my back yard and I had no idea it had Clay Target Shooting, and Kayak/Canoeing! I am part of the Fayetteville NC Bloggers. They invited me along for a day adventure to see what Spring Lake, NC had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised. We had quite the adventure.
Fort Bragg’s Clay Target Center-located in Spring Lake
We started the day off shooting a large gun… This is not something I have had a lot of experience in. I have to admit, this was a bit out of my comfort zone.
We pulled up to a lovely facility called the Fort Bragg’s Clay Target Center. You can bring your own shot gun or rent one for on-site skeet and trap shooting. The facility was really large and there is even an on-site campground.
Our instructor was very PATIENT and INFORMATIVE; particularly with me. My arms were shaking so hard when shooting that gun. I wasn’t sure if it was because it was so heavy I thought my arms would fall off, or because I was scared half to death. Either way, I was proud to break-out of my comfort zone and shoot it. I can’t say I hit the target. I can’t even say I came close to hitting the target. Because I absolutely DID NOT. But it was a fun experience. A couple of the ladies, the shortest ones out of the bunch (go figure), did nail the those orange clay pieces. Go ladies!!!
If you are wanting to try Clay Target Shooting, I highly recommend checking out the Fort Bragg Clay Target Center. It is a wonderful facility.
Noble Meats in Spring Lake NC
Next on the agenda was what I like to do best… EAT!!! GoFayetteville has been telling me about Noble Meats in Spring Lake for a while. I had not had the opportunity to visit, so I was so glad this little stop was on the day’s festivities. Noble Meats is a little bitty restaurant and butcher shop.
Let me just tell you…. THE FOOD WAS GOOD! They served barbecue, ribs, homemade bratwursts and Italian sausages… Then tasty sides such as mac and cheese, new potatoes, potato salad, Texas caviar…. It was DELICIOUS.
Noble Meats also has a nice selection of fresh cuts of meat to cook at home such as beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and sausage. They sell handmade beef jerky also!
They also offer a variety of sauces and seasonings to help you make those pretty slabs of meat cook tasty. You definitely want to hit up this place ASAP. Warning though… it gets very, very packed!
Arctic Sno Snoballs in Spring Lake
I am such a kid when it comes to snoballs. I go CRAZY over them. I had my first one in New Orleans. The little snoball places have been popping up all over NC much to my delight. However, few serve them like New Orleans, stuffed with ice-cream. I almost did a full cartwheel in the parking lot of Arctic Sno Snoballs when I found out they sell their snoballs “stuffed.” I hit the jackpot! Ice-cream is stuffed right in the middle of that soft, slushy flavored snow-ice.
If you have never had a snoball, then you MUST go to Arctic Sno Snoballs. I would say for the first time, don’t pick a crazy flavor. You can do that after you have tried something more traditional. I recommend starting out vanilla snocream stuffed for your first try. It will be like an old fashioned sno cream you made from fresh snow combined with real ice-cream. And it will be AMAZING. After you try that, you can go for the crazy flavors. Just keep in mind, crazier isn’t alway better!
Spring Lake Outpost- Kayaking, Canoeing, Tubing
If that wasn’t enough fun for the day, we had a water adventure waiting for us! Our group went kayaking, canoeing, and tubing down the Little River from Spring Lake Outpost. This is a hidden little gem in Spring Lake. Literally hidden, because if you don’t search high and low for their sign, you will miss it driving down North Bragg Blvd.
The staff was very nice and had all of our boats or tubes ready to go. They briefed us on how to row.
I was partnered with lovely Tiffany from TheMrsTee Blog in a big canoe. She had me laughing to complete stitches. She would yell, “left to go right, and right to go left,” and when I wasn’t laughing my tush off, I would paddle where she wanted me to go. Considering neither of us really new what we were doing, I’d say we made an incredible team. We both remained in the boat and made it back to land.
The river views are absolutely gorgeous. You quickly forget you are in Spring Lake. The river trip was so much fun.
I am not sure if I would really recommend the tubes… at least for my preference. There are a lot of logs in that river. It can get very bumpy for an inter tube. The kayaks look like loads of fun, but be aware they can and do get flipped if you bump logs in the wrong spot; so definitely bring a friend in case you need to flip it back over. And there are DINASOUR size spiders. However, we learned that those are not dangerous, they are just there to creep you out for a greater water adventure experience….
When you are finished with your water adventure, Spring Lake Outpost will pick you up and shuttle you back to your car. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to take my husband back with me. I am so excited to have this gem in Spring Lake. It is a fantastic way to spend the day outdoors.
Thank you GoFayetteville and Fayetteville NC Bloggers for such a fun filled adventurous day in Spring Lake!! Who knew Spring Lake was so cool? xoxo
