Make the best Southern cornbread with this easy-to-make recipe!

The combined ingredients of Jiffy, brown sugar, sugar, butter, sour cream, and vanilla creates a flavorful, moist, sweet cornbread.

It turns out absolutely delicious. This recipe is a double batch because it is so tasty and moist, one batch is never enough!

    Watch how to make:

southern cornbread ingredients-Jiffy, sugar, eggs, brown sugar, sour cream, butter, milk

    Ingredients

Here is a list of the ingredients you will need to make this Southern cornbread recipe:

    • Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix-You can use different corn muffin mix, but for this recipe, Jiffy works best.
    • eggs
    • salt- You need a very coarse salt such as coarse Kosher salt.
    • sugar
    • brown sugar- I like using light brown sugar, but the original recipe uses dark brown. Brown sugar gives a stronger molasses flavor. It is up to your preference.
    • whole milk
    • sour cream
    • vanilla
    • butter-melted
process steps to make moist cornbread

    Steps

Follow these steps to make sweet cornbread.

    1. Pour Jiffy Corn Muffin mix into a large mixing bowl. Break up any clumps.
    2. Add sugar, brown sugar, eggs, milk, sour cream, melted butter, and vanilla.
    3. Mix until smooth.
    4. On the bottom of a greased 9x 13 inch metal baking dish, sprinkle very coarse salt.
    5. Pour batter over the salt and spread evenly.
    6. Bake at 375 degrees for 27 to 30 minutes.

    Note

This recipe uses a metal baking dish. Metal baking dishes are better for baking quick breads and muffins than glass. If you use a glass baking dish, you will need to adjust the baking time.

    Where I found this recipe

I wish I could take credit for creating this recipe, I actually found this recipe on TikTok by creator Chopslap.

On his TikTok channel, he has several great recipes and cooking tips.

He is also very funny, so I highly recommend him.

When I first saw the video, it looked so tasty, I had to try it.

When I ate my first piece and realized this really was the best Southern cornbread recipe EVER, I had to share with my readers!

I did make some minor adjustments and had some minor trial and errors I learned from:

    Adjustments

    • He used dark brown sugar, I used light brown sugar.
    • I doubled his recipe because one batch is not enough for any sized crowd... it disappears too quickly.
    • Originally, I tried doubling it in a 9x9 inch baking dish and it overflowed-do not do that!
    • When doubling the recipe, I did not double the vanilla amount.
    • He uses a metal bread loaf pan for the single batch. He does not suggest a glass pan for this recipe, and I agree with him. The metal will cook more even and help with keeping it moist.
