Giordano's Famous Deep Dish Pizza Delivered to Your Door

My very sweet sister-in-law, Melanie, surprised us with a special delivery. She ordered Giordano's Famous Stuffed Pizza online and had it delivered to our house. 

In 1974, Italian immigrants Efren and Joseph Boglio opened the first Giordano restaurant in Chicago. Their Mama Giordano was famous for making double- crusted, cheese pizza pie in a small northern Italian town near Torino, Italy. Efren and Joseph began cooking her special recipe and serving it at their pizzeria. Since then it has become known as one of the best places to get a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. 

My sister-in-law had been to Chicago and ate at the very famous Giordano's. She loved it and was excited to find out that they shipped pizzas. Being the foodies that we are in my household, this was a very exciting surprise!

The Chicago style deep dish pizza was shipped in a protected cooler. It arrives within 2 days of shipping. It arrives frozen so you can continue to freeze it until you are ready to cook it or begin thawing it out if you want to cook it soon.

She ordered two stuffed pepperoni pizzas. We took them out of the packaging and thawed according to directions.

For optimal cheese melt, we followed the directions and microwaved the pizzas for 4 minutes. Then we added the additional sauce it came with.

We baked them in the oven for 40 minutes.

Out came an AMAZING Deep Dish pizza!! 

I have heard about deep dish pizza and I have only been able to try copy cat versions. This deep dish pizza was nothing like anything else I have tried. It was incredible.

The pizza was more like a pie. The crust is kind of thick and flaky. The first layer of the pizza is cheese. Then it was layered with pepperoni. Then it had an even bigger layer of cheese. Then it was topped with marinara. DELICIOUS!!!! I wish I had another slice right now! I have to admit, it has become one of my favorite pizzas.

Chicago has been on one of my "Must Do Trips," but it will be a while before I can get there. How terrific is it that I can have a taste of Chicago sent to me?

This was so much fun to do, I am thinking of ordering at restaurants all over the US and trying something once a month. Why not? I highly recommending giving it a try yourself.
