    B's Barbecue in Greenville, NC

    August 8, 2016 Updated: January 27, 2020 By Katie Crenshaw 14 Comments

If you like dives and good Southern vinegar-based barbecue, you are going to love B's Barbecue.

If you like dives and good Southern vinegar based barbecue, you are going to love B's Barbecue. Located in Greenville, North Carolina, B's Barbecue is a little shack serving some of the best pulled pork barbecue you will ever eat. Bring cash, be prepared to wait in a line, and get there early. They only stay open until they run out of food.

Around me, everyone talks about food. I am a food blogger… I love to talk about food. And at some point everyone says to me, "You have to try…" B's Barbecue was one of those places that I have been suggested to try. I was talking among friends that graduated from ECU and this was one of their favorite college stops. When they go to an ECU tailgate, they always pick up their barbecue from B's. My husband had also read about B's Barbecue and had it on his "Must Eat List." We love a good diner and dive. Not afraid to get in the car and drive for a couple of hours for a good meal, we decided to take a mini road trip to see what the fuss was all about. We weren't disappointed.

We pulled up to a little shack on the side of the road. I would have been skeptic at first glance if I did not know anything about the restaurant. It was a real dive.

But the graveled full parking lot gave me the reassurance. This was going to be good.

To the side of the restaurant you will find Kingsford charcoal being heated for the smokehouse.

The smokehouse is located in the back of the building. Smells of charcoal smoke fill the air.

Inside the smoke house you will find the Pitmaster slowly cooking the meat. With the Carolina heat and no air-conditioning, this can be a tough job that takes some serious dedication.

There are a few seats on the inside and picnic benches on the outside. It was a beautiful day, so we decided to eat at the picnic benches.

You place your order at the window and wait for them to call your name when it is ready. It is a no nonsense kind of place, so you need to be sure of your order when you place it. There is often a long line. We lucked out and didn't have a long wait that day. They serve barbecue (pulled pork), ribs, and chicken. Sides are green beans, boiled potatoes, cole slaw, beans, and french fries. Meals are served with corn sticks instead of hushpuppies. We were late; so they were sold out of the ribs to our dismay.

My husband ordered the barbecue plate with slaw and green beans.

The barbecue was tasty. It was moist, but not greasy and fatty. It was smoky, but not overly smoky. The vinegar sauce was sweet, a little sour, with just a hint of a mild heat. The chicken was cooked perfectly. It had a nice smoky flavor with crispy skin and juicy meat. It was definitely worth the combination. My plate was so big, I ended up sharing my chicken with my husband. Those corn sticks were AMAZING!!! They were a nice change to the traditional hush puppies. Cole slaw was a sweet mayo based slaw that complimented the pulled pork.

We left happy and full. I highly recommend putting B's Barbecue on your Barbecue "Must Eat List" if you love Eastern North Carolina Barbecue. It is the real deal. Never had Eastern North Carolina Barbecue? Well then you need to! And this is the place to try it. I am coming back for the ribs and boiled potatoes. I will let you know how that goes! Until then, check them out. Remember they only take cash and get there early! They usually close up shop by 2:00.

      Bonnie,
When I went to B's they did not serve seafood, nor was it on the menu. So assume you would be safe.

I see no seafood so i hope I'm right in assuming you don't serve seafood at B,s. I have seafood allergies and cannot go to resteraunts that serve it. I would love to go there to try your bbq, ribs and chicken.

Now this is a real BBQ place! This is exactly like some of the BBQ places I used to go to when I lived in eastern Tennessee. I LOVE places like this & the fan in the window seals the deal for me. Dives make the best food and they always seem to have cooks working there who take pleasure and pride in their cooking. So glad you made the drive to visit this place and I'll be visiting if I'm ever in the area. I'll call you and we can meet there! heeheehee!

That BBQ looks amazing. And dives are actually the best places to eat! They're authentic and focus on flavour more than anything else.

Now this is soooo classic NC! Might be worth driving across the state for. My Dad is a huge BBQ fan so I'm sharing with him!

NC has the best barbecue by far. My parents grew up there and we hit all the small places when we visit!
